1 February, 2025; In a recent development, the Pakistani government has announced an increase in fuel prices effective February 2, 2025. The price of high-speed diesel (HSD) has risen by Rs7 per litre, moving from Rs260.95 to Rs267.95. Petrol prices have also seen an uptick of Rs1 per litre, now priced at Rs257.13, up from the previous Rs256.13.

This adjustment follows a series of price hikes in recent months. On January 16, 2025, the government increased petrol prices by Rs3.47 per litre and diesel by Rs2.61 per litre, citing rising international oil prices influenced by geopolitical factors.

These consecutive increases are attributed to fluctuations in the global oil market and domestic economic pressures. The rising fuel costs are expected to have a cascading effect on various sectors, including transportation and agriculture, potentially leading to higher prices for goods and services across the country.

Consumers and industry stakeholders are expressing concern over the continuous upward trend in fuel prices, urging the government to explore measures to mitigate the impact on the economy and the general public.
