3 March, 2025; In a significant organizational shift, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati has expelled her nephew, Akash Anand, from the party, following his earlier removal from all party posts. This decision comes amid allegations of internal factionalism linked to Akash’s father-in-law, Ashok Siddharth, who was previously expelled for similar reasons.
On March 2, 2025, during a national executive meeting in Lucknow, Mayawati relieved Akash Anand of his duties, including his role as National Coordinator. She expressed concerns over Siddharth’s continued influence on Akash, suggesting it had adversely affected his political judgment and alignment with the party’s mission. Mayawati criticized Akash’s response to his removal as “selfish, arrogant, and non-missionary,” indicating a lack of remorse and political maturity.
The BSP chief emphasized that Siddharth’s actions had not only harmed the party but also derailed Akash’s political career. To stabilize the party’s leadership, Mayawati appointed her brother, Anand Kumar, and Rajya Sabha MP Ramji Gautam as the new National Coordinators. She expressed confidence in Anand Kumar’s dedication and loyalty to the BSP’s mission.
Mayawati reiterated her commitment to the principles of BSP founder Kanshi Ram, stating that she would not announce a successor during her lifetime and would continue to lead the party. She highlighted the importance of developing Uttar Pradesh’s Bahujan community for the advancement of both the state and the country.
This leadership restructuring underscores Mayawati’s resolve to maintain discipline and unity within the BSP, ensuring that personal affiliations do not compromise the party’s core mission and values.
