Mahela Jayawardene Provides Update on Jasprit Bumrah’s Fitness and Return to Mumbai Indians

19 March, 2025; Mumbai, Maharashtra: Mumbai Indians’ Head Coach Mahela Jayawardene has provided a crucial update on the fitness and return prospects of star pacer Jasprit Bumrah. Speaking at a press briefing, Jayawardene confirmed that Bumrah is currently undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru and that the team is awaiting further updates from the NCA regarding his progress.

“Jasprit Bumrah is currently at the National Cricket Academy (NCA)… We have to wait for their (NCA) feedback on him,” Jayawardene said. “At the moment, everything is going well. He is in good spirits and hopefully he can join the team soon.”

Bumrah, known for his lethal yorkers and impeccable death-over bowling, has been sidelined due to a back injury, which has kept him out of action for a significant period. His absence has been a major setback for the Mumbai Indians, given his pivotal role in the team’s bowling attack.

Jayawardene acknowledged the challenge posed by Bumrah’s absence but expressed confidence in the team’s depth and the opportunity it creates for other players to step up. “His absence is a challenge as he is one of the best bowlers in the world… but it is an opportunity for someone else to come forward and show what they are capable of,” he stated.

Bumrah’s return is highly anticipated by fans and the Mumbai Indians’ management, as his presence would significantly bolster the team’s chances in the ongoing season. The Mumbai Indians have struggled in the bowling department, with the lack of an experienced spearhead visible in crucial matches.

The team is hoping for positive feedback from the NCA and is optimistic that Bumrah will make a strong comeback soon. Jayawardene’s remarks reflect the team’s cautious yet hopeful approach towards managing the star pacer’s fitness and workload to ensure he returns at full strength.

Bumrah’s return could prove to be a game-changer for Mumbai Indians as they aim to reclaim the top spot in the league standings. The team and its fans remain hopeful that the premier fast bowler will be back on the field soon, leading the attack with his trademark precision and pace.
