The 47-year-old actor, recognized for his comedic performances in films such as ‘Style’ and ‘Excuse Me,’ departed Maharashtra on April 25 and covered nearly 1800 km over four days. Sahil Khan, an actor and influencer, was apprehended by the Mumbai police’s crime branch in Chhattisgarh on Sunday morning after traveling through six states in an effort to evade capture.
Sources reported to CNN-News18 that Khan initially headed to Goa, then moved on to Karnataka, and subsequently traveled to Hubballi city before finally reaching Hyderabad in a private vehicle. To disguise his identity, he dressed in simple attire and used a scarf to cover his face.
While in Hyderabad, the police managed to track his location, forcing him to flee to Chhattisgarh. He even passed through a Naxalite-affected area in Chhattisgarh, but his driver refused to continue during the nighttime.
Khan was located and arrested at the Hotel Aaradhya International in Jagdalpur, Chhattisgarh. The Mumbai police had been monitoring him for 72 hours prior to his capture, during which they seized two mobile phones and a sum of cash.
Khan was detained for his purported involvement in the Mahadev betting app case, accused of facilitating illegal gambling and transactions. His arrest by the Mumbai cyber cell’s Special Investigating Team (SIT) followed after the Bombay High Court denied his anticipatory bail application last Wednesday. The police allege that Khan owned one of these betting apps. He has been placed in police custody until May 1.
