India’s T20 World Cup 2024 Squad Update: Captain Rohit Sharma, chief selector Ajit Agarkar, and coach Rahul Dravid are set to meet today to finalize the team for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, as the deadline to submit a provisional squad list is fast approaching. It was recently reported that Rohit and Agarkar had an informal meeting in New Delhi to deliberate on the team structure.
Reports indicate that Agarkar arrived in Delhi for an IPL game on Saturday between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals, which also provided an opportunity for him to discuss squad details with the T20 captain.
While unexpected selections are unlikely, Mumbai Indians player Tilak Varma emerges as a potential choice. Known for his dynamic left-handed batting and useful off-spin, particularly against left-handed batters, Varma could be a strategic addition. With an abundance of talent available, decision-makers face tough choices on finalizing the squad.
Earlier this year, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah confirmed Rohit as the team captain. With intense competition for positions within the squad, the selectors are tasked with the challenging job of determining the most suitable players and reserves.
Currently, with Rohit as a confirmed opener, there are up to seven high-caliber candidates vying to partner him at the start of the innings.
