In a recent statement, BJP leader Shazia Ilmi launched a scathing critique of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and its leader Arvind Kejriwal, raising questions about his decision to propose Atishi Marlena as the next Chief Minister of Delhi. Ilmi’s comments come in light of Kejriwal’s potential resignation and the speculation surrounding Atishi’s candidacy for the top post.

Shazia Ilmi questioned the basis of Atishi’s nomination, stating, “Why has Arvind Kejriwal chosen Atishi Marlena as the next CM of Delhi? Her appointment raises concerns about Kejriwal’s real motives.” She further criticized Atishi’s background, mentioning her parents’ ideological influences: “After getting inspired by Marx and Lenin, her parents gave her the surname Marlena.” The reference to Marxism and Leninism was clearly intended to underscore a perceived ideological disconnect between Atishi and the larger political narrative of AAP, which was originally rooted in Anna Hazare’s anti-corruption movement.

Ilmi also implied that Atishi did not have the same historical ties to the party’s origins, stating, “Atishi Marlena had nothing to do with Anna Hazare’s movement,” and expressed doubts about her political stature within the party. She described Atishi as a “safe bet” for Kejriwal, suggesting that her leadership might not challenge Kejriwal’s influence. “She can’t become the power centre as compared to other leaders like Saurabh Bhardwaj or Gopal Rai,” Ilmi added, implying that Atishi’s appointment might be a strategic move to prevent internal power struggles.

One of Ilmi’s primary concerns revolved around the mandate given to Arvind Kejriwal by the people of Delhi. “The public of Delhi voted in the name of Arvind Kejriwal, and now why will they tolerate anyone else?” she questioned, implying that the electorate may not accept a different leader.

Shazia Ilmi also hinted at the possibility of Arvind Kejriwal being under pressure, stating, “Is Arvind Kejriwal scared that now the trial will start and the truth will come out? So, now he has resigned due to this fear and is going among the public to gain sympathy.” Her remarks appear to suggest that Kejriwal’s potential resignation may be motivated by a desire to avoid accountability or public scrutiny.

Atishi Marlena, a well-regarded leader within AAP, has been lauded for her contributions to education reform in Delhi during her tenure as an advisor to the Education Ministry. However, her proposed elevation to the position of Chief Minister has sparked political debate, with leaders like Shazia Ilmi questioning her suitability for the role and the motivations behind her selection.

As the situation develops, it remains to be seen how the public and political analysts will react to these unfolding events. The transition of leadership in Delhi, if it occurs, will likely be a crucial moment for the AAP, shaping its future political trajectory in both the state and national arenas.
