Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Mocks Rahul Gandhi, Calls Him a ‘Phantom’ and Urges Him to ‘Watch Cartoons’

Ranchi, Jharkhand – In a sharp and sarcastic rebuke to Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma once again launched a verbal attack, ridiculing the senior Congress leader’s statements. Sarma, known for his frequent criticism of the Gandhi family, dismissed Rahul Gandhi’s political stance with a jibe, comparing him to a comic book character and advising him to stay home and watch cartoons.

“Rahul Gandhi is an innocent child. He thinks of himself as a phantom,” Sarma remarked while addressing a gathering. “Perhaps he had read or seen a comic in his childhood, which is why he thinks of himself as a phantom. I believe that he is still of the age to watch cartoons. He should sit at home and keep watching cartoons.”

The comments are in response to a statement made by Rahul Gandhi, though Sarma did not specify the exact context of Gandhi’s remarks that prompted this reaction. Sarma’s remarks reflect the continuing war of words between the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as both parties remain engaged in a bitter political rivalry ahead of the upcoming elections.

Rahul Gandhi, who has been critical of the Modi government on a wide range of issues including unemployment, inflation, and governance, often finds himself at the receiving end of barbs from BJP leaders, with Himanta Biswa Sarma frequently taking the lead in mocking the Congress scion. The Assam CM’s latest comments are part of his broader critique of Rahul Gandhi’s leadership style, which he frequently dismisses as ineffective and immature.

Sarma’s remarks come at a time when the political landscape in India is becoming increasingly polarized, with leaders from both major parties exchanging jibes on public platforms. The BJP has long portrayed Rahul Gandhi as inexperienced and ill-suited for national leadership, while Congress positions him as a leader willing to stand up for democratic values and speak out against the ruling party’s policies.

The rhetoric employed by Sarma, however, stands out for its tone of personal insult. By likening Rahul Gandhi to a child and suggesting that he watch cartoons, Sarma seems to underscore his belief that Gandhi is out of touch with serious political discourse.

While such comments may resonate with Sarma’s base, they are likely to further widen the divide between the two parties. Rahul Gandhi has often shrugged off personal attacks, positioning himself as a voice for the common people and a defender of India’s democratic institutions. Whether Sarma’s remarks will provoke a response from the Congress leader or his party remains to be seen.

As the political battle between the BJP and Congress intensifies, such exchanges highlight the deeply personal nature of contemporary Indian politics, where the line between political critique and personal insult often blurs.
