Chennai, October: In observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, BJP leader and current Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan recently addressed the importance of awareness and early detection of breast cancer in Tamil Nadu. Soundararajan, a trained medical professional, spoke at an awareness program organized by the ESIC (Employees’ State Insurance Corporation) hospital, emphasizing the critical need for proactive measures in the fight against breast cancer.
Soundararajan began by recognizing October as the official “Pink Month,” dedicated to global breast cancer awareness. “October is the Pink Month, Breast Cancer Awareness Month,” she noted, expressing gratitude to the ESIC hospital management for inviting her to the event. “I was called by the ESIC hospital management for the awareness program… I want to create awareness amongst the public because the incidents are more in Tamil Nadu,” she said.
She highlighted the pressing need for increased awareness and understanding among the public, especially as breast cancer incidents are reportedly higher in Tamil Nadu. Stressing the importance of early diagnosis, Soundararajan said, “If it is diagnosed at an early stage, then there is definitely a cure available.” She underscored that creating public awareness about early detection and intervention is key to ensuring better outcomes for those affected.
In her address, she also expressed her appreciation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, thanking him for efforts to reduce the cost of cancer drugs in the country, thereby making essential treatments more affordable.
