30 November, 2024; In a recent incident at the Delhi-Ghaziabad border, Samajwadi Party MP Zia Ur Rehman Barq accused the Uttar Pradesh Police of forcibly stopping him and his associates, causing significant inconvenience to the public. Expressing his frustration, Barq stated that the authorities’ actions were a violation of constitutional principles, promising to raise the issue in Parliament.
“They (UP Police) forcibly stopped us and are not allowing us to go. The public is facing a lot of inconveniences,” Barq remarked to reporters. “We will raise this issue in the Parliament regarding how they are disrespecting the Constitution.”
Barq, a vocal critic of arbitrary law enforcement actions, highlighted the broader implications of such incidents on public governance and democratic values. While refraining from providing specific details about the events leading to the confrontation, he asserted his determination to bring the matter to national attention. “Now we are going back to Delhi, and we will raise this issue in the Parliament strongly,” he added.
This incident adds to the ongoing debates about the relationship between law enforcement practices and the rights of elected representatives. The Samajwadi Party is expected to demand accountability in the upcoming parliamentary sessions, potentially sparking a larger discussion on police conduct and its impact on democratic processes.
The Uttar Pradesh Police has not yet issued an official statement regarding the incident. Public reactions have been mixed, with some supporting Barq’s stance and others emphasizing the need for law enforcement to maintain order, especially in sensitive border areas.
As Parliament convenes, this issue is likely to feature prominently, reflecting the ongoing tussle between state authorities and political leaders over the balance between governance and constitutional freedoms.
