Ranchi, Jharkhand: In a move aimed at streamlining governance and improving administrative efficiency, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced a significant reform that will decentralize administrative processes across the state. Speaking on the changes, the Chief Minister stated, “In Assam, we have brought an administrative reform that will revolutionize the way people access government services.”
Under this new reform, citizens will no longer need to visit the District Commissioner’s (DC) office for various administrative matters. Instead, the work will be handled at the “Co-District” level, which will operate within individual Assembly constituencies. This new framework covers important services like issuing caste certificates and resolving revenue-related issues.
Sarma highlighted that the primary goal of the reform is to reduce the burden on central administrative offices while ensuring that governance reaches every corner of the state more effectively. “The people of one Assembly constituency do not have to go to the office of the District Commissioner. Their whole work, from caste certificates to revenue matters, will be done in the Co-District. All the issues of one Assembly constituency will be solved at the Co-District level,” he said.
This reform is part of the Assam government’s broader efforts to bring administration closer to the people, simplifying the process for essential services and minimizing the need for citizens to travel long distances for tasks that can be handled locally.
The administrative overhaul is expected to enhance the ease of living for residents across the state, making government processes more accessible and user-friendly, particularly for rural communities.
