Bhupendra Patel Launches ‘Fit India, Fit Media’ for Journalists During Development Week

15 October, 2024;On the occasion of Development Week, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, in collaboration with the state government and the Gujarat Red Cross, unveiled a state-wide health screening initiative titled ‘Fit India, Fit Media’. This unique program is aimed at promoting the health and well-being of journalists across Gujarat, recognizing their essential role in society.

The initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Fit India’, a movement aimed at improving the health of every citizen. As the architects of public discourse and the voice of the masses, journalists are often subject to stressful and irregular lifestyles, making their health a matter of public concern. In this light, the ‘Fit India, Fit Media’ program seeks to ensure that the health of those who inform and shape public opinion is well-protected.

Addressing the gathering, CM Bhupendra Patel emphasized the crucial role of journalism as the fourth pillar of democracy, saying, “The religion of journalism is to awaken society. If journalists are healthy, they will be able to do the important work of keeping society informed and aware.” He pointed out that without good health, it becomes difficult for anyone to excel in their professional lives, and journalists, who work tirelessly to bring news to the public, are no exception.

Patel further elaborated on the importance of health in professional and personal success, quoting an age-old proverb, “The first happiness is that of oneself.” Good health is foundational to achieving excellence in any occupation. With today’s increasingly stressful and erratic lifestyles, maintaining good health has become essential, and this initiative provides journalists with access to preventive health care services, including screenings for lifestyle-related diseases.

The ‘Fit India, Fit Media’ initiative is a testament to the Gujarat government’s commitment to the welfare of media professionals, recognizing that a healthy journalist community is crucial to sustaining a well-informed society.

This state-wide program will offer health check-ups, consultations, and wellness activities tailored to the needs of journalists, ensuring they can continue their vital work without compromising on their health. As journalism is integral to a functioning democracy, Patel’s government is taking this proactive step to ensure the well-being of the voices that keep democracy vibrant and dynamic.

By integrating the ideals of the ‘Fit India’ movement into the lives of media professionals, the Gujarat government underscores its holistic approach to development—one that recognizes the importance of health not just for the common citizen, but also for those who are constantly working to inform, educate, and engage the public.
