Bobby Panicker and T Yangseo Sangtam Join BJP, Meet National President JP Nadda in New Delhi

In a significant political development, Bobby Panicker, the former Working President and Treasurer of the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC), along with T Yangseo Sangtam, former Deputy Speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, officially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) yesterday. The duo met with BJP’s National President, JP Nadda, in New Delhi shortly after their induction into the party.

The move marks a major shift in Nagaland’s political landscape, as both leaders have held prominent positions in the state’s political framework and their crossover to BJP could influence the party’s standing in the northeastern state. Bobby Panicker, a well-known figure in Nagaland’s Congress, had been instrumental in shaping the party’s strategies and finances. His decision to switch sides is viewed as a considerable blow to the Congress in the region, which has been struggling to regain its foothold.

T Yangseo Sangtam, known for his leadership in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, has also had a significant political career. His experience as Deputy Speaker added to his influence in Nagaland’s political arena, and his association with the BJP is expected to bolster the party’s prospects in upcoming elections.

In a ceremony held in New Delhi, both leaders expressed their optimism about their new political alignment. Speaking on the occasion, Bobby Panicker stated, “The BJP has been making remarkable strides under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and National President JP Nadda. I am confident that the BJP’s policies and vision for development will benefit Nagaland and its people.”

T Yangseo Sangtam echoed similar sentiments, expressing faith in the BJP’s approach towards regional development and inclusive governance. “The BJP has consistently shown its commitment towards the growth of the Northeast, and I look forward to working with the party to further the aspirations of the people of Nagaland,” Sangtam remarked.

JP Nadda welcomed both leaders into the BJP, lauding their contributions to Nagaland’s political scene and expressing confidence that their experience would strengthen the party in the Northeast. He emphasized that the BJP is dedicated to the overall development of the region, with a focus on infrastructure, education, and employment generation.

The entry of Bobby Panicker and T Yangseo Sangtam is seen as a part of the BJP’s broader strategy to expand its presence in the northeastern states. With the Lok Sabha elections approaching in 2024, the party is actively working to consolidate its influence in the region by drawing in key leaders and building alliances.

This political shift has set the stage for new dynamics in Nagaland’s political landscape, and it remains to be seen how these changes will impact the balance of power in the state’s forthcoming electoral contests.
