Chennai, Tamil Nadu: Mayor Priya Rajan Welcomes Udhayanidhi Stalin’s Elevation as Deputy CM, Sees Boost for 2026 Elections

Chennai, Tamil Nadu – The political landscape of Tamil Nadu is abuzz with excitement following the elevation of Udhayanidhi Stalin, son of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, to the post of Deputy Chief Minister. The move, widely anticipated in political circles, has sparked enthusiasm across the state’s ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party.

Chennai Mayor Priya Rajan expressed her delight at Udhayanidhi Stalin’s new role, calling it a significant development for both the party and the city. “Everyone is very happy and excited,” she said, addressing reporters at a public function in Chennai. “This decision will help us a lot, particularly in the 2026 assembly elections. His leadership and vision will strengthen our chances of continuing the good work we have started.”

Mayor Priya Rajan, a close ally of Udhayanidhi, emphasized the positive energy his promotion has infused into the party, particularly among the younger cadre. “Udhayanidhi has already shown immense potential with his work in youth affairs and sports. His elevation to Deputy Chief Minister is not only a recognition of his abilities but also a message that the DMK is looking to the future with confidence and strong leadership.”

Udhayanidhi Stalin, who is also a sitting MLA from the Chepauk-Triplicane constituency, has steadily risen within the DMK ranks over the past few years. He has been widely recognized for his efforts in implementing youth-centric programs, and his role as Minister for Youth Welfare and Sports Development has won him both political and public support.

Mayor Priya Rajan noted that his rise to a higher position in government would further galvanize the party’s preparations for the 2026 assembly elections. “Udhayanidhi’s leadership will inspire the younger generation of Tamil Nadu, which will be crucial as we move closer to the next assembly polls,” she added. “With him as Deputy CM, we can expect more innovative programs that address youth, employment, and development issues.”

The decision to elevate Udhayanidhi Stalin is seen as a strategic move by the DMK leadership, aiming to consolidate its position within the state. His promotion is also a reflection of the party’s focus on generational leadership, ensuring a seamless transition of power and continuity in governance.

The upcoming assembly elections in 2026 are expected to be fiercely contested, with the DMK seeking a second consecutive term in power. Udhayanidhi Stalin’s leadership is seen as a critical factor in energizing the party base, particularly among first-time voters and younger demographics.

As Tamil Nadu looks toward the future, Udhayanidhi’s rise signifies both continuity and change, reinforcing the DMK’s longstanding influence while adapting to the needs of a younger, more dynamic electorate.
