Congress MP Digvijaya Singh Criticizes Rajya Sabha Chairman’s Actions

In a recent statement, Congress MP Digvijaya Singh raised concerns over the functioning of the Rajya Sabha, accusing the Chairman of failing to adhere to parliamentary rules and undermining the opposition’s voice. Singh’s comments came amidst growing tensions in Parliament, as opposition members allege that their freedom to speak has been curtailed.

When the rules are not being followed by the Chair itself, what can we expect from the Chairman of Rajya Sabha?” Singh questioned, highlighting what he views as an ongoing issue with the fairness of parliamentary proceedings. He further stated that opposition MPs are being systematically prevented from expressing their views in Parliament, contributing to a sense of frustration among opposition lawmakers.

A central point in Singh’s remarks was the issue of judicial accountability. He pointed out that despite controversial statements made by certain judges, no significant action had been taken. Singh referred to a judge who had allegedly criticized the Constitution, urging the government to take stronger measures to maintain judicial discipline. The lack of accountability, he argued, sends a troubling signal about the government’s commitment to upholding constitutional values.

Singh also criticized the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha for allegedly neglecting the interests of farmers, which he said was evident in the decisions taken under the Chairman’s leadership. He accused the Chairman of failing to address vital concerns raised by farmers, a critical issue for many MPs who represent rural constituencies.

The Congress MP did not stop there, condemning the attacks on Mallikarjun Kharge, the Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha. “We condemn the statements made against Mallikarjun Kharge,” Singh asserted, emphasizing the need for greater respect and decorum in parliamentary conduct, especially towards the Leader of Opposition.

Singh’s remarks shed light on the ongoing friction between the opposition and the ruling government in Parliament, with several opposition leaders accusing the current administration of stifling dissent and disregarding democratic norms. As Parliament’s winter session progresses, it remains to be seen whether these concerns will lead to further action or simply add to the growing political tensions in the country.
