26 December, 2024; In a significant move to strengthen its organizational framework and political momentum, the Indian National Congress (INC) held a comprehensive Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting, followed by a briefing by party general secretary KC Venugopal.
During the media interaction, Venugopal outlined key decisions and resolutions taken during the meeting. He revealed that the party had adopted two critical resolutions: one commemorating Mahatma Gandhi and another addressing current political challenges. “More than 50 leaders participated in the discussions,” he said, reflecting the widespread engagement of senior Congress leaders.
Year-Long Political Campaign Planned
Venugopal announced that the Congress has decided to embark on a year-long, massive political campaign aimed at revitalizing the party’s grassroots presence and amplifying its voice on national issues. This campaign is expected to involve rallies, public outreach programs, and interactions with citizens to address pressing concerns such as inflation, unemployment, and governance challenges under the BJP-led central government.
Focus on Organizational Reforms
In a forward-looking move, 2025 has been declared as the “Organisational Reforming Program” year for the Congress. The party plans to conduct a “thorough inquiry” into the capabilities of its leaders at every level, from the grassroots to the central leadership. This introspective approach is aimed at identifying and addressing weaknesses within the party’s structure, enhancing accountability, and ensuring that capable leaders are placed in key roles.
Strategic Preparation for Upcoming Elections
The decisions taken during the CWC meeting signal the Congress’s intent to prepare strategically for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections and several state assembly polls. The focus on both political mobilization and internal restructuring reflects a dual strategy to strengthen the party’s electoral chances and restore public trust.
With these measures, the Congress aims to project itself as a cohesive and reform-driven political force, ready to take on the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and provide a credible alternative for the Indian electorate.
The year-long campaign and organizational overhaul are expected to bring significant changes to the party’s dynamics and may set the tone for a rejuvenated Congress in the years ahead.
