On November 21, 2024, Delhi’s Chief Minister Atishi launched the ‘Delhi Solar Portal,’ a new initiative designed to provide a single window solution for residents looking to install rooftop solar panels. This move aims to simplify the process for citizens and encourage the widespread adoption of solar energy across the city.
The portal serves as a one-stop digital platform for all solar-related activities, offering easy access to information on installation procedures, eligibility criteria, subsidies, and other related services. By streamlining the process, the Delhi government hopes to make rooftop solar installations more accessible to both residential and commercial establishments, ultimately promoting the use of clean and renewable energy sources.
Speaking at the launch event, Atishi highlighted the importance of renewable energy in the context of Delhi’s growing environmental challenges. “Rooftop solar energy has immense potential to reduce our reliance on non-renewable energy sources, reduce electricity costs for citizens, and contribute to a cleaner, greener Delhi,” she stated.
The portal is designed to guide users through every step of the installation process. It includes features such as online registration for rooftop solar installations, a user-friendly interface for checking eligibility, and information about government subsidies and incentives. Additionally, it connects users with certified solar vendors and service providers, ensuring the quality and efficiency of installations.
The initiative is part of Delhi’s broader strategy to become a leader in renewable energy adoption, as outlined in the city’s ambitious energy transition plans. By 2030, Delhi aims to generate 25% of its total power demand through solar energy, with rooftop solar systems playing a significant role in achieving this target.
