Delhi Government Pays Early Salaries and Bonuses to MCD Workers Ahead of Diwali

In a positive move for Delhi’s sanitation workforce, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced that salaries for approximately 64,000 temporary and permanent Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) sanitation workers have been credited early, ahead of the Diwali festival. The wages, which were originally scheduled to be disbursed by November 7, were transferred early to enable these essential workers to celebrate Diwali joyously with their families.

Kejriwal highlighted the government’s commitment to supporting the city’s workforce, stating, “Keeping Diwali in mind, the salary of November has reached the accounts of approximately 64,000 temporary and permanent MCD sanitation workers.” He added that the government wanted workers to “celebrate a good Diwali with their children and family.” Additionally, he announced that a Diwali bonus totaling around ₹23 crore had also been deposited into the bank accounts of these workers.

This gesture from the Delhi government aims to ease financial pressure on workers and reinforce their dedication to maintaining the city’s cleanliness. As sanitation workers play a vital role in ensuring the capital city’s health and hygiene, especially during festivals when waste generation is high, this timely payment reflects the government’s acknowledgment of their efforts.
