28 April, 2025; Delhi and several parts of northwest and central India have been battling unusually early heatwave conditions, with temperatures soaring well above normal for this time of year. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a six-day alert, warning residents to brace for continued extreme heat. However, some relief is on the horizon, as the IMD has also forecasted rain showers that are expected to cool temperatures in the coming days.

Currently, New Delhi is experiencing temperatures around 40°C, intensifying discomfort among residents. The early arrival of such severe heat has not only impacted daily life but also raised concerns over health risks, especially for vulnerable groups like children, the elderly, and outdoor workers.
Other regions are also grappling with the effects of this weather. Gujarat’s Saurashtra-Kutch region has been placed under a heatwave warning, with authorities urging residents to limit outdoor activities, stay hydrated, and take necessary precautions against heat-related illnesses.
The IMD’s latest forecast brings hope, as rainfall could bring much-needed respite to Delhi and neighboring areas. Meteorologists suggest that the rain will likely bring down temperatures, improve air quality, and provide temporary relief from the harsh conditions.
Authorities have advised people to stay indoors during peak afternoon hours, wear light clothing, and consume plenty of fluids. Public health advisories have also been issued, emphasizing the importance of protecting oneself from heatstroke and dehydration.
As the city awaits the cooling effects of the predicted showers, residents are hopeful that the spell of extreme heat will soon ease, restoring some normalcy to daily life.
