Between October 2023 and April 2024, Sanjay Singh experienced an increase in body weight from 76 kg to 82 kg, and his blood sugar levels improved from 153/103 to 136/70 mm Hg, according to his health reports. This came amidst claims by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who was also jailed, had lost more than 4 kg during his time in prison, a claim that Tihar jail authorities contested by presenting Sanjay Singh’s medical report, which indicated his health had actually improved while incarcerated.
Sanjay Singh, an AAP MP recently granted bail in the Delhi Liquor Policy case after a six-month detention, exhibited health improvements during his stay in Tihar, as per his medical documentation.
Following complaints in March about the lack of basic amenities including clean drinking water, a nutritious diet, and sanitary living conditions during court appearances outside Delhi, a Delhi court mandated that Singh be provided with a healthy diet and bottled water.
These developments occur in the backdrop of allegations from AAP leaders, including Kejriwal’s wife Sunita, about the rapid weight loss experienced by the Delhi Chief Minister, totaling 4.5 kg since his March 21 arrest in connection to the Delhi liquor policy scandal.
Atishi, another AAP member, voiced concerns on X (formerly Twitter) about the potential health risks faced by Kejriwal due to his incarceration. She highlighted Kejriwal’s severe diabetes and his dedication to working around the clock for the country, noting his significant weight loss since arrest.
However, Tihar jail’s administration has rebutted AAP’s allegations about Kejriwal’s deteriorating health, affirming that his weight has remained stable at 65 kg from the time of his admission to the present. The statement from Wednesday detailed that upon his arrival on April 1, 2024, Kejriwal underwent a medical evaluation by two doctors, who found all vital signs to be normal. They also confirmed that home-cooked food has been provided in accordance with court orders, maintaining his health within normal parameters.
