10 November, 2024; An intense encounter is currently underway in Keshwan, a region in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir, as security forces engage with a group of suspected terrorists. According to early reports, around three to four terrorists are believed to be trapped in the area as the security personnel, including specialized units, work to neutralize the threat.
This particular group of militants is suspected to be the same that carried out a deadly attack on November 7 in the village of Kuntwara, resulting in the tragic deaths of two Village Defence Guard (VDG) members. The VDGs, comprising local volunteers, work alongside official security forces to maintain peace and security within vulnerable villages. Their role has become increasingly critical in recent years, especially in areas prone to militant activities.
Following the Kuntwara incident, local and national authorities ramped up intelligence and security operations in an attempt to locate and apprehend the perpetrators. The ongoing encounter in Keshwan marks a significant step in these efforts, as security forces close in on the suspected group.
The Kishtwar district, with its rugged terrain and forested areas, presents unique challenges for security operations, often serving as a strategic hideout for militants. This region has witnessed an increase in militant activity, prompting an intensified counter-insurgency approach by security forces. The operation has heightened security in the surrounding areas, with reinforcements and patrols deployed to prevent any escape attempt by the suspects.
This encounter is another reminder of the ongoing security challenges in Jammu and Kashmir, with militants attempting to disrupt peace in the region. Authorities continue to urge local residents to stay indoors and report any suspicious activities.
