11 March, 2025; Former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has confirmed that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) raid at his residence has concluded. The senior Congress leader stated that the central investigating agency has recovered Rs 33 lakh from his house, and he is fully prepared to provide an account of the amount.
The ED conducted the raid as part of an ongoing investigation, though the exact details of the case remain undisclosed. Baghel, who has been a vocal critic of the central government, alleged that the raid was politically motivated and aimed at tarnishing his image ahead of crucial political developments in the state.
Speaking to the media, Baghel said, “The ED has taken Rs 33 lakh from my house. I am ready to give an account of every single rupee. This money is related to election expenses and personal savings, and I will cooperate fully with the agency.”
The Congress leader also accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led central government of misusing central agencies to target opposition leaders. “This is nothing new. The BJP has been using agencies like the ED and CBI to harass opposition leaders. The people of Chhattisgarh are watching everything, and they will give a befitting reply,” he added.
The ED has yet to issue an official statement regarding the raid and the alleged financial irregularities. Meanwhile, the Congress party has extended its support to Baghel, calling the raid an example of “vendetta politics.”
This development comes amid heightened political tensions in Chhattisgarh, where the Congress and BJP continue to battle for political dominance. Observers believe that such actions will further intensify the political discourse in the state as both parties gear up for future elections.
