Islamabad, April 17, 2025 — A sudden and intense hailstorm accompanied by heavy rainfall swept across Islamabad on Wednesday, disrupting daily life and causing damage to property. The unexpected weather event brought a sharp drop in temperature, offering brief relief from the persistent heat, but also left a trail of destruction in its wake.

The downpour began in the afternoon, catching many residents off guard. Within minutes, the skies darkened, and strong gusts of wind began to lash the capital. This was soon followed by a fierce hailstorm, with large hailstones pounding rooftops, roads, and vehicles across the city.
Eyewitnesses reported that several cars were damaged by the forceful hail, with shattered windshields and dented bodywork seen in multiple neighborhoods. “It felt like rocks were falling from the sky,” said Ahmed Raza, a local resident. “I had just parked my car outside, and within minutes, the windows were broken.”
The sudden change in weather also caused traffic jams on major roads, as drivers slowed down or sought shelter from the storm. Social media was flooded with videos and pictures showing hail-covered streets and people taking refuge under bus stops and trees.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the storm was the result of a western disturbance that had moved into the northern regions of the country. Officials warned that more rain and isolated hailstorms could be expected in the coming days.
While the rain brought a welcome dip in temperature, city authorities urged caution. “Residents are advised to stay indoors during severe weather and avoid parking vehicles under trees or in open areas,” said a spokesperson from the Capital Development Authority (CDA).
As cleanup efforts begin and the city returns to normal, Islamabad’s residents are reminded once again of the unpredictable nature of spring weather in the region.
