India-China Relations: MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal’s Statement

New Delhi: Addressing a question about the current state of India-China relations, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal provided an update on the ongoing diplomatic dialogue between the two nations. Jaiswal highlighted that the External Affairs Minister (EAM) had discussed the matter on several occasions, both domestically and internationally, most recently during his visit to Berlin.

Jaiswal reiterated that India continues to maintain transparent communication regarding its talks with China, especially under the framework of the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination on India-China Border Affairs (WMCC). This mechanism has been a key platform for addressing the issues between the two countries, particularly the border disputes in eastern Ladakh.

“We have also been keeping you informed of the developments that have happened in our talks with the WMCC in that mechanism. That is where the India-China relations are at present,” Jaiswal added, emphasizing that the dialogue process remains active and ongoing.

India-China relations have seen heightened tensions in recent years, particularly following the 2020 Galwan Valley clashes. Both sides have engaged in military and diplomatic talks aimed at de-escalation and restoring peace along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). While progress has been made, several key issues remain unresolved.

Jaiswal’s remarks underscore India’s commitment to diplomatic engagement while continuing to focus on national security concerns and the need for stability in the region. The government remains firm in its stance that relations with China must be based on mutual respect, territorial integrity, and peaceful negotiations.

The spokesperson’s comments signal that while talks are progressing, a long-term resolution is still under process. India’s position is clear: constructive dialogue is crucial, but it must result in tangible outcomes that address key concerns on the ground.
