Gaza/Jerusalem, May 2025 — The Israel-Hamas conflict continues to escalate as the Israeli military renews its vow to dismantle all Hamas infrastructure in the Gaza Strip. The conflict, which erupted in October 2023, has now stretched into its nineteenth month, with no immediate end in sight.

The human cost of the ongoing war has been staggering. According to Palestinian health officials, the death toll in Gaza has surpassed 52,500, marking one of the deadliest phases in the region’s history. Thousands more are injured, and a vast majority of the enclave’s population has been displaced, grappling with a dire humanitarian crisis.
In a recent statement, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) emphasized their commitment to a total elimination of what they described as “Hamas’ terror infrastructure.” The military claims that operations will intensify in the coming weeks, targeting underground tunnel networks, weapons stockpiles, and command centers believed to be used by Hamas operatives.
“Israel will not rest until Hamas is completely dismantled,” said an IDF spokesperson. “Our mission is to ensure long-term security for Israeli citizens and to permanently neutralize the threat posed by Hamas.”
The war, initially sparked by a surprise cross-border attack by Hamas in October 2023, has since spiraled into a prolonged and brutal confrontation. Israel responded with airstrikes and ground incursions, while Hamas has continued to fire rockets into southern and central Israel, prompting widespread fear and disruption.
Meanwhile, international bodies and human rights organizations have repeatedly called for an immediate ceasefire and the opening of humanitarian corridors to aid civilians trapped in Gaza. The United Nations has expressed deep concern over the scale of destruction and the loss of civilian lives, warning of long-term consequences for regional stability.
Despite growing international pressure, diplomatic efforts to broker a ceasefire have so far failed. Both sides have maintained hardened positions, with Hamas vowing to resist what it sees as occupation and aggression, and Israel determined to end the group’s military capabilities once and for all.
As the conflict drags on, the people of Gaza continue to bear the brunt of the violence, with basic services collapsing, hospitals overwhelmed, and food and water increasingly scarce. The world watches with mounting urgency as the death toll climbs and hopes for peace remain elusive.
