ITBP Establishes New Company Operative Base in Naxal-affected Abhujhmad Region of Chhattisgarh

6 February, 2025; In a strategic move to combat the growing influence of Naxalites in Chhattisgarh, the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) has established a new Company Operative Base (COB) in the Kutul area of Narayanpur district. This area, often referred to as the hub of Naxal activities in the Abhujhmad region, has long been a core Naxal-affected zone, posing significant security challenges for the state and the country.

On Wednesday, ITBP’s 41st Battalion inaugurated the new COB in Kutul, a critical area in the state’s Naxal-prone heartland. The establishment of this base marks a significant step in curbing the operations of Naxalite groups and restoring stability to the region. The COB will play an essential role in enhancing the security presence and boosting operations against insurgent groups that have been a major concern for local authorities.

Kutul, often seen as the nerve center of Naxal influence in the Abhujhmad region, has witnessed several violent clashes between security forces and Naxalite groups over the years. The region, characterized by dense forests and challenging terrain, provides a safe haven for insurgents. By setting up a strong base in this critical area, ITBP aims to cut off Naxalites’ movements and disrupt their supply chains, which will directly affect their ability to sustain operations in the region.

The establishment of this COB is not just a localized security measure but a key element in the broader framework of Mission Kager-2026, the central government’s comprehensive plan for Naxal eradication. The mission focuses on strategic interventions, community outreach, and enhanced security measures to eliminate the Naxalite threat across the country. This move by ITBP will accelerate the implementation of Mission Kager-2026, ensuring a more effective response to the challenges posed by Naxalites in Chhattisgarh and other affected areas.

The ITBP’s increased presence in the Abhujhmad region, alongside other security forces, is expected to bring significant improvements to the local security situation, fostering an environment conducive to development and peace. The central government’s focus on Naxal eradication is expected to have a positive impact on the overall socio-economic development of the region, paving the way for long-term stability and growth.

With the launch of this new COB, the ITBP and other security agencies are sending a strong message that they are committed to ensuring peace and security in one of India’s most volatile regions.
