Karnataka: Police Conduct Flag March in Mandya Following Stone-Pelting Incident During Ganesh Procession

In a swift response to the escalating tensions in Mandya district, Karnataka, police conducted a flag march in Nagamangala town following a stone-pelting incident during a Ganesh idol procession. The march, which began at the historic Saumyakeshava Temple, was aimed at restoring peace and instilling confidence among the public after the incident sparked concerns about communal unrest.

The clash occurred during the immersion procession of Lord Ganesha, a key event of the Ganesh Chaturthi festival. Tensions escalated when stones were allegedly hurled at the procession, leading to chaos and minor injuries among some participants. In the wake of the violence, law enforcement agencies acted promptly to prevent further disruptions.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah addressed the incident, condemning the act and reassuring the public that strict measures were being taken. He confirmed that more than 50 individuals had been arrested in connection with the stone-pelting, and investigations were ongoing to identify others involved.

“We will not tolerate any attempts to disturb the peace in Karnataka. The state government is committed to ensuring the safety and security of all its citizens, and the culprits behind this incident will be dealt with strictly,” said the Chief Minister.

The flag march was organized to demonstrate the presence of security forces in the region and send a message of zero tolerance for violence. Police officials emphasized that additional forces have been deployed in sensitive areas to prevent further outbreaks of communal tension. The district administration has also appealed to both communities to maintain peace and cooperate with law enforcement.

Mandya, known for its rich cultural heritage and peaceful coexistence of various communities, has witnessed occasional flare-ups during religious processions in the past. However, local authorities and community leaders are working together to ensure that the current situation is resolved amicably.

The swift action by the police and the stern message from the Chief Minister are expected to calm the situation, and no further incidents of violence have been reported as of now. Authorities have also urged the public to refrain from spreading rumors and to rely on verified information to avoid unnecessary panic.

As investigations continue, the focus remains on maintaining peace in the district and ensuring that such incidents do not disrupt the harmony of the region.
