Legendary Industrialist Ratan Tata Passes Away: A National Loss

Vientiane, Laos: The passing of Ratan Tata, one of India’s most revered industrialists, has sent ripples of sorrow across the nation and beyond. Reflecting on his remarkable life and contributions, India’s External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar shared heartfelt words, emphasizing the profound impact Tata had on the world of business and society at large.

In his tribute, Dr. Jaishankar recalled his early encounters with Ratan Tata, particularly during his tenure in government when they initiated the CEO Forum with the United States. He remarked, “I first met him when I was at a sort of middle level in the government. At that time, we had started the CEO Forum with the United States. He was the natural choice as the person who was going to lead it.” This statement reflects not only Tata’s natural leadership but also his international stature as an industry titan.

Jaishankar continued, sharing personal insights into their close collaboration over the years, particularly in promoting stronger ties between Indian and American businesses. “We used to work very closely together, travel together to the US… He was a truly remarkable person,” Jaishankar said, underscoring the camaraderie and mutual respect they shared. Tata’s ability to bridge nations and foster partnerships was a hallmark of his global influence.

Beyond his business acumen, Ratan Tata’s legacy lies in his ability to evoke deep admiration and affection across the spectrum of society. “I think if you look at the feelings, the affection, the respect that we have today, I don’t remember anyone in the industry who has evoked such a feeling among a very wide cross-section of people,” Jaishankar remarked, highlighting Tata’s unique ability to connect with people from all walks of life.

His death is not just a personal loss but a “national loss,” according to Jaishankar. Tata’s visionary leadership extended beyond India’s borders, revolutionizing industries, and positioning the Tata Group as a global powerhouse. “He was a man ahead of his time. He kind of took the Tata Group overseas,” Jaishankar concluded, encapsulating the magnitude of Ratan Tata’s global achievements.

Ratan Tata’s demise marks the end of an era for India’s industrial landscape. A man of immense wisdom, humility, and foresight, he not only shaped the future of the Tata Group but also left an indelible mark on the world stage. His contributions to India’s growth, both economic and social, will be remembered for generations to come.
