MUMBAI, September 13, 2024 – Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde inaugurated the much-awaited arch bridge connecting the Coastal Road to the Bandra-Worli Sea Link, calling it a “game-changing” project that will drastically reduce travel time for commuters.

During the inauguration, CM Shinde highlighted the significant impact the project will have on the city’s traffic. “Earlier, it would take 45 minutes to 1 hour to travel from Marine Drive to Bandra. Now, it will be a journey of just 10 minutes,” he stated. “This is a very comfortable and relaxing project for the people of Mumbai. Vehicles used to run bumper-to-bumper on this route, but today, people will travel faster, saving both time and fuel.”

The project, part of Mumbai’s broader infrastructure overhaul, promises to reduce congestion and cut down pollution. Shinde proudly emphasized the project’s signal-free design, which will further enhance the flow of traffic and reduce bottlenecks. The CM also mentioned that the bridge had been completed ahead of schedule. “When we opened this span last time, we had said that on September 15, we would open it. Today is the 13th, and we did this before time. This is our commitment.”

Shinde also looked ahead, declaring ambitious plans to further modernize Mumbai’s infrastructure. He promised that within the next two years, the entire city would have concrete roads and be completely pothole-free. “Mumbai is being beautified,” he remarked, reinforcing the government’s commitment to transforming the city into a global urban center with world-class road networks.

The arch bridge is seen as a pivotal component of Mumbai’s coastal infrastructure project, designed to ease the movement between South and North Mumbai and make commutes more efficient. With the opening of this bridge, the government is set to alleviate the heavy traffic load on one of the busiest routes in the city.

This development is part of a series of infrastructure initiatives aimed at making Mumbai more commuter-friendly, ensuring smoother transit, and providing residents with better quality of life.
