BMC Takes Action Against Juhu Bar for Serving Alcohol to Underage Patron
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has taken decisive action against the Global Tapas Bar in Juhu after it was discovered that the bar manager had served hard liquor to Mihir Shah, who is not yet 24 years old, thereby violating Maharashtra’s legal drinking age of 25.
On Wednesday, the BMC demolished the illegal structures of the bar, which had served alcohol to Mihir Shah, the son of Shiv Sena leader Rajesh Shah. Just hours after consuming alcohol at the bar, Mihir drove his BMW into a motorcycle, resulting in a tragic accident in Worli. The collision led to the death of Kaveri Nakhwa and injured her husband, Pradeep.
In addition to the demolition, the civic body thoroughly scrutinized and sealed the Global Tapas Bar. The BMC’s action followed an earlier decision by the state Excise Department, which had already sealed the bar on Saturday night after Mihir and his friends visited. The district collector ordered the bar’s closure due to violations of regulations, according to an excise department official.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Mihir’s luxury car rammed into the motorcycle from behind on Sunday morning in Worli. Kaveri Nakhwa, who was riding pillion, died as a result of the accident, while her husband survived with injuries. Shockingly, Kaveri was dragged for approximately 1.5 km by the speeding car before Mihir pulled over, switched seats with his driver, and fled the scene in another vehicle, according to police reports.
