Port Louis, Mauritius: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Mauritius after more than a decade, marking a significant moment in the longstanding relationship between the two nations. His last visit to the island nation was in 2015, and this upcoming trip is being regarded as a pivotal event in enhancing diplomatic and economic cooperation.
Mauritius’ Deputy Foreign Minister, Hambyrajen Narsinghen, expressed his country’s enthusiasm for PM Modi’s visit, highlighting its importance. “PM Modi is coming to Mauritius after more than 10 years. His last visit was in 2015. So we have invited him… We are very pleased and extremely honoured to have the presence of PM Narendra Modi in Mauritius,” he stated.
The Deputy Foreign Minister also emphasized India’s role as a key ally and a model for Mauritius in various sectors. “India is a role model for us in many fields and areas. So I think this would be something very important for us,” he remarked. Over the years, India and Mauritius have shared strong ties based on historical, cultural, and economic connections.
The new government in Mauritius is keen on strengthening its relations with India, building upon the already excellent foundation. “For so many years, India has been a sort of traditional ally of Mauritius. As the new government, we are going to consolidate the already excellent relationship that exists between Mauritius and India,” Narsinghen affirmed.
Economic collaboration is expected to be a key focus of PM Modi’s visit. Mauritius is looking forward to an enhanced program of cooperation in trade and commercial sectors. “When we look at the bilateral relationship between Mauritius and India, this time we’re going to have a sort of enhanced program of cooperation, in matters of trade and commercial matters,” Narsinghen added.
India and Mauritius share deep-rooted historical and cultural ties, with many Mauritians tracing their ancestry back to India. Over the years, India has played a crucial role in supporting Mauritius in various fields, including infrastructure development, education, healthcare, and defense.
PM Modi’s visit is expected to further bolster the strategic partnership between the two nations, reinforcing their mutual commitment to economic progress and regional stability.
