Punjab Celebrates Dussehra 2024 with Grand Effigies of Ravana, Meghnath, and Kumbhkaran in Jalandhar

12 October, 2024;Jalandhar, a city in Punjab, witnessed vibrant celebrations for Dussehra 2024 with a grand display of effigies of Ravana, Meghnath, and Kumbhkaran. The event took place at a large open ground, where massive effigies of the mythological figures were installed, drawing thousands of spectators to mark the victory of good over evil.

Dussehra, one of the most significant festivals in Hindu culture, symbolizes the triumph of Lord Ram over the demon king Ravana. The festival is celebrated with much fanfare across India, but the effigy-burning ceremony is especially popular in Punjab. This year in Jalandhar, the elaborate preparation for the event saw towering effigies of Ravana, along with his son Meghnath and brother Kumbhkaran, erected in a beautifully decorated ground.

The crowd gathered early in the evening, with families, children, and groups of friends arriving to witness the symbolic destruction of the demons. Various local artists and performers graced the occasion with cultural performances, including Ramleela—a dramatic reenactment of Lord Ram’s life and battle against Ravana. The high-energy performances enthralled the audience, enhancing the festive spirit.

As dusk settled, the grand finale of the event unfolded when the effigies were set ablaze amid loud cheers. Firecrackers lit the sky, signifying the destruction of evil forces. The spectacle was accompanied by traditional music and chants, making the atmosphere electric with excitement and reverence.

The local administration and event organizers ensured the event ran smoothly, with necessary security and safety measures in place. Several prominent personalities from the region, including political leaders and social figures, attended the event, adding to the significance of the celebration.

The Dussehra celebrations in Jalandhar serve as a reminder of the deep cultural roots in Punjab, where mythology, tradition, and community celebrations come together to foster a sense of unity and spirituality.
