Patna, Bihar: Senior BJP leader and former Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad made a strong statement regarding the current state of affairs in Jharkhand, particularly in the Santhal Pargana region. Addressing a gathering in Patna, Prasad criticized the Hemant Soren-led Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) government, accusing it of compromising the state’s integrity for electoral gains.
Prasad alleged that the JMM government has been allowing Rohingyas and other “infiltrators” into Jharkhand to build its vote bank. “Today, the whole Jharkhand is in a concerning situation, especially Santhal Pargana. The way these people [the state government] are making the Rohingyas and other infiltrators come into the state for votes is alarming,” he remarked. He pointed to the state’s unique tribal heritage, saying that Jharkhand was created during Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s tenure as Prime Minister, in response to longstanding demands for a separate tribal state. “Atal ji’s government formed Jharkhand as a big demand for our tribal brothers. Now, are you [the JMM] trying to change the history of the state? This won’t happen,” he asserted.
Prasad’s comments echo recent statements from Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who also raised concerns about Jharkhand’s security and socio-political stability. Emphasizing the need for vigilance, Prasad warned that Jharkhand might face the same challenges as neighboring West Bengal if the situation persists. “Union Home Minister rightly pointed out the issue, and strict action will be taken. If you [the people of Jharkhand] don’t want a West Bengal-like situation in Jharkhand, remove Hemant Soren’s government and bring in a BJP and NDA government,” he urged.
Prasad’s remarks add to a growing narrative by BJP leaders who accuse regional parties of compromising national security and local heritage for political gains. The BJP’s stance in Jharkhand reflects its broader campaign to regain influence in states governed by opposition parties, with the narrative focusing on security, nationalism, and cultural preservation.
As the state moves closer to upcoming elections, this issue is likely to remain central in the BJP’s appeal to Jharkhand’s voters, especially in tribal and border areas sensitive to demographic changes. The party is expected to intensify its efforts to portray itself as a guardian of Jharkhand’s tribal identity and national security, while challenging the JMM-led coalition on these grounds.
