In response to the heavy rains that have battered Kedarghati, the Central Government has deployed MI-17 and Chinook helicopters to assist in the rescue of pilgrims stranded on the Kedarnath Yatra route. This initiative was undertaken at the request of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to ensure the safety and well-being of the affected pilgrims.
Rescue Efforts Initiated
The rescue operations, spearheaded by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) in collaboration with the district administration, began in full force on Friday. The teams have been working tirelessly, continuing their efforts late into the night to evacuate the stranded pilgrims and provide necessary assistance.
Progress of the Rescue Operations
As of 12 noon on Friday, significant progress has been made:
- Airlifting Operations: Approximately 430 passengers have been successfully airlifted from Lyncholi and Bhimbali. The use of MI-17 and Chinook helicopters has been crucial in reaching these remote and challenging locations.
- Ground Rescue Operations: Around 700 passengers have been rescued from the Gaurikund-Sonprayag stretch. The coordination between the NDRF, SDRF, and district administration has been instrumental in ensuring the safe evacuation of these pilgrims.
Medical Assistance
In addition to the evacuation efforts, the NDRF and the Health Department are providing medical treatment to the injured pilgrims. Medical teams are on standby to offer immediate care and address any health issues faced by the rescued individuals.
