Rift in Karnataka Congress: BJP Leader BY Vijayendra’s Remarks Spark Speculation

Shivamogga, Karnataka: The political landscape in Karnataka appears to be stirring with internal tensions within the Congress party. Karnataka BJP President BY Vijayendra, speaking in Shivamogga, made a bold claim regarding the strained relationship between Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar.

Vijayendra alleged that Siddaramaiah is facing mounting pressure to resign, citing an “understanding” between the two senior Congress leaders. “According to our sources, there was a clear understanding between DK Shivakumar and Siddaramaiah that the latter would step down after presenting the state budget. However, Siddaramaiah’s recent actions suggest he is reluctant to relinquish his post,” he said.

The BJP leader also pointed out Siddaramaiah’s recent social gatherings, including lunch and dinner meetings hosted without the presence of DK Shivakumar. He claimed these were indicative of a deepening rift within the Congress ranks. “The absence of DK Shivakumar from these events is a clear indication that all is not well within the Congress. Siddaramaiah doesn’t seem in the mood to resign from the CM post, nor does DK Shivakumar appear willing to let him continue,” Vijayendra remarked.

Historical Context of Power Sharing

The Congress’s victory in the 2023 Karnataka Assembly elections came with an apparent agreement to share power between Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar. While Siddaramaiah was named Chief Minister, there have been persistent rumors of an arrangement that would see Shivakumar assuming the position mid-term.

The BJP has seized upon these alleged internal divisions, positioning itself as a unified alternative ahead of future elections. Vijayendra’s remarks underscore the BJP’s strategy of highlighting perceived instability within the Congress to strengthen its foothold in the state.

Congress Denies Rift

In response to such claims, Congress leaders have repeatedly denied any discord between Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar. They assert that both leaders are working cohesively for the state’s development. However, the political corridors remain abuzz with speculation, and all eyes are on the Congress high command’s next move.

Implications for Karnataka Politics

If the alleged rift continues to widen, it could significantly impact governance in Karnataka. Political analysts suggest that internal divisions within Congress might provide an opportunity for the BJP to regain political momentum in the state.

The unfolding scenario will undoubtedly be closely watched, as it could have far-reaching implications for both state and national politics.
