Scuffle During Waqf JPC Meeting: AAP MP Sanjay Singh Calls Statement to Media ‘Unfortunate’

23 October, 2024;A heated discussion took place during the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) meeting on the Waqf issue yesterday, sparking controversy after details of the internal conversation were shared with the media. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Member of Parliament (MP) Sanjay Singh expressed his discontent over the breach of parliamentary protocols, calling the incident “very unfortunate.”

In his statement, Sanjay Singh emphasized the importance of adhering to parliamentary rules, stating, “It is very unfortunate that a statement is given in the media about the conversation and discussion that took place inside the JPC meeting.” He highlighted that the discussions within the JPC are meant to remain confidential, according to established parliamentary guidelines.

Singh further praised the experience of the JPC chairman, asserting that with such political experience, it is vital for all members to respect the rules. He added, “The chairman of JPC is a person with a lot of political experience. According to parliamentary rules, no one can give a statement about the discussions that take place inside the JPC.”

Reflecting on the solidarity among opposition members, Singh mentioned that all opposition representatives, including prominent figures like Syed Naseer Hussain, Kalyan Banerjee, A Raja, Arvind Sawant, and Asaduddin Owaisi, had collectively agreed during the meeting that giving statements to the media regarding internal discussions was inappropriate.

Singh made it clear that the opposition will take the matter up in the next JPC meeting. “Yesterday, all the opposition members discussed among themselves and decided that giving a statement outside is completely wrong, and certainly we will raise this topic in the next meeting,” he said.

The scuffle within the JPC meeting, followed by the media leak, has raised questions about the conduct of members and the sanctity of parliamentary proceedings. It is expected that this issue will spark further debate in the upcoming sessions, with both the opposition and ruling members likely to weigh in on the breach of protocol.

As this situation unfolds, it will be crucial for all participants to adhere to parliamentary guidelines to preserve the integrity of the committee’s work.
