9 November, 2024; Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu recently inaugurated the trial run of a seaplane service between Vijayawada and Srisailam, a unique initiative aimed at boosting tourism and connectivity in the region. The trial, conducted in the state’s NTR District, is part of a larger vision to introduce seaplane travel as a regular feature in Andhra Pradesh, particularly to improve access to remote destinations with scenic appeal and religious significance.
Following the successful trial, Chief Minister Naidu expressed his satisfaction with the experience, describing it as more comfortable than conventional flights and even better than helicopter journeys. “It is more comfortable than regular flights. Even better than helicopters. We are very happy, it was altogether a new experience,” Naidu remarked. He praised the smoothness of both the landing and take-off, highlighting the convenience that such services could offer to travelers and locals alike.
The Vijayawada-Srisailam route holds special cultural significance, as Srisailam is home to the revered Mallikarjuna Temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlinga temples of Lord Shiva. By introducing this seaplane service, the Andhra Pradesh government aims to make the pilgrimage site more accessible to devotees and tourists while promoting the scenic beauty of the Nallamala hills and Krishna River that grace this route.
The state administration is optimistic that the seaplane service will not only draw more visitors but also encourage investment in tourism infrastructure, creating job opportunities and supporting the local economy. The government is planning to expand similar seaplane routes to connect other key destinations across Andhra Pradesh, aligning with its broader mission of transforming the state into a tourism hub.
As the trial run concluded successfully, officials are now looking into finalizing safety and logistical protocols to establish regular seaplane services. With promising feedback and a positive experience, Andhra Pradesh could soon see a significant rise in tourism, setting an example for other states in exploring alternative transport options for improved connectivity.
