In a significant move towards enhancing the rail connectivity and infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir, Union Minister Jitendra Singh announced the inclusion of the Udhampur railway station in the list of ‘Aadarsh’ stations. This development is part of the ambitious Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail link project, which aims to integrate the region more closely with the rest of India.
Minister Singh highlighted the strategic importance of Udhampur, stating, “The railway station here has been included in the ‘Aadarsh’ stations that are being built. There was a demand here that it should be named after Captain Tushar Mahajan.” This naming would be a tribute to Captain Tushar Mahajan, a brave soldier from Udhampur who laid down his life in the line of duty. The proposal has received considerable local support, reflecting the community’s desire to honor their hero’s legacy.
Aadarsh Station Initiative
The ‘Aadarsh’ station scheme is an initiative by the Indian Railways aimed at modernizing and upgrading railway stations across the country to provide better amenities and services to passengers.
