Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal Promotes Khadi on Gandhi Jayanti in Naharkatia, Assam

Naharkatia, Assam | On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal visited the Jagaran shop in Naharkatia today to promote Khadi and support local weavers. Accompanied by Rameswar Teli, MP, and Taranga Gogoi, MLA, Sonowal shopped for Khadi garments, reinforcing the significance of the “Vocal for Local” movement.

During the event, Sonowal highlighted the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi, who championed local industries, particularly handlooms. “The great son of India, Mahatma Gandhi always advocated for supporting local industries, especially handloom products. He encouraged people to embrace locally produced goods by our weavers. The ‘Vocal for Local’ call by Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi is a reflection of the same message, urging us to promote and support local industries,” Sonowal said.

He further urged the public to actively participate in this initiative, emphasizing the importance of uplifting local artisans and boosting India’s self-reliance. “By purchasing local products, we are directly contributing to the growth of our economy and empowering our craftsmen. Let us join hands to take this wonderful initiative forward,” he added.

The visit and support for Khadi products on Gandhi Jayanti were a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of self-reliance and sustainable local economies.
