Wayanad, Kerala: Sachin Pilot Backs Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s Bid for Parliament in By-Election, Predicts Shift in Kerala Politics

9 November, 2024; Congress leader Sachin Pilot recently made a strong case for Priyanka Gandhi Vadra as a candidate for the upcoming by-election in Wayanad, Kerala. According to Pilot, the people of Wayanad are ready to make a decisive choice in her favor, predicting her victory by a historic margin. He expressed confidence that Priyanka Gandhi Vadra would be a powerful voice for the community in parliament, advocating for the unique hopes and needs of the Wayanad constituency.

Pilot further stated that this by-election is not only significant for Wayanad but will also have a broader impact on Kerala’s political landscape. With the state’s assembly elections approaching in 2026, Pilot believes the outcome in Wayanad could set the tone for a political shift in Kerala. “The United Democratic Front (UDF) will come to power in 2026, and the by-elections will be an indicator of the people’s mood,” he said. According to Pilot, the current Left-Front government in Kerala faces a crisis of popularity and is losing support due to dissatisfaction among the electorate.

Addressing the national scenario, Pilot argued that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is struggling to maintain its influence and that public discontent with issues like inflation, unemployment, and agricultural challenges is growing. He suggested that the country is looking for change after years of what he described as “the same old slogans.”

Pilot also highlighted Rahul Gandhi’s efforts as the Leader of the Opposition in holding the government accountable in parliament. He suggested that the BJP is facing challenges in key states like Maharashtra and Jharkhand, where he anticipates the opposition INDIA alliance will form the government. “The BJP is on the back foot,” he asserted, hinting that a shift is underway as the INDIA alliance gains momentum in the run-up to these elections.

The Wayanad by-election, therefore, holds symbolic weight for both the state and the country. For the Congress and the UDF, it offers an opportunity to gain ground, while for the BJP and the ruling Left-Front in Kerala, it serves as a potential warning of changing tides. With Priyanka Gandhi Vadra as the Congress candidate, the party hopes to energize its base and signal a broader political shift as Kerala’s assembly elections draw closer.
