Delhi: A new western disturbance, originating from eastern Iran, is set to impact North India within the next 24 to 48 hours, according to IMD Scientist Soma Sen Roy. The weather system is expected to bring significant changes, including thunderstorms and hailstorms, to various regions over the next few days.

Affected Regions
The disturbance is projected to affect several areas across North India. Key impacts include:

  • January 10-11:
    • Thunderstorms and hailstorms are expected in West Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, North Rajasthan, West Uttar Pradesh, and northwest Madhya Pradesh.
  • January 12:
    • Light rainfall and thunderstorms will likely shift to East Madhya Pradesh, southeast Uttar Pradesh, and North Chhattisgarh.

Temperature and Fog Forecast
The western disturbance will cause a temporary rise in minimum temperatures across North India over the next 2-3 days. However, foggy conditions are predicted to persist in some areas.

  • Prayagraj:
    • Fog is expected on the morning of January 11, followed by thunderstorms at night and into January 12.
    • On January 13, fog will return, accompanied by a possible drop in minimum temperatures.

Precautionary Measures
Residents in the affected regions are advised to:

  1. Stay updated with local weather forecasts.
  2. Exercise caution while traveling, especially in fog-prone areas.
  3. Protect crops and livestock from hailstorms where applicable.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) continues to monitor the situation and urges people to remain alert to the changing weather patterns.
